I recently signed up and I am only in chapter 1. I am a complete amateur. I do not see any specifications on what programs to download for command line practice. I am not sure which program is best and if I should I try a free download or pay for a package?
You definitely don’t have to pay for any command line practice. All you need to access the command line is your OS of choice. The chapter 1 tutorial assumes you are working in a unix or linux environment. In order to access your command line:
Check this resource for mac(unix).
If you are working in linux, press
ctrl + alt + t.
Windows is more complicated, because you have to access the Windows Linux Subsystem (WSL). For info on that, check this https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10.
WSL will make following Odin Project much more complicated and is not advised. If you would like to work on a Windows machine, it is best to partition space on your hard drive for a linux distribution that you can dual boot along side your Windows installation.
