How do I install vscode?

I apologize if this is overly basic but the lesson where we install a text editor has left me in the dust.

I have gone to and downloaded the Linux version of Vscode, but how do I install this download into my virtual box?

Hi there,

Here is the link to the guide

Hope it helps

I think where I am having trouble is how to get the file into the virtual box. When I attempt to run “sudo apt install ./.deb”

It comes back with "E: Unsupported file ./code_1.30.2-1546901646_amd64.deb given on commandline "

So it seems like the vscode file I’m trying to have the virtual box retrieve is inaccessible because it is downloaded somewhere outside of the virtual box?

You need to use the name of the file you downloaded.

In the example you need to replace with the actual filename.

Hi sorry if I just reply today, but I also have the same problem. But I follow the link that you share, and I install the VS Code using Snap, Is that okay?, does that make any difference with downloading the .deb file?

Yes it should be fine to install via snap.

Hi, sorry to disturb but I have trouble with the "Remote - WSL’ under this section of the course. I am not sure if it is already installed when I install the VS Code through Snap. Also, I am having trouble finding the green icon in the lower-left corner to help me connect to WSL.

I am using a Virtual Machine. Did I miss something?

I really appreciate your help. So Thank you.

if you are using WSL you need to install the windows version of VS Code. WSL cannot open linux applications.
