Homebrew Password

#1

I had typed in the path for homebrew to download on my terminal and I got to the part where it saids to put in the password. I put the password in 3 times not know what password and I believe I have been kicked out. I get a message saying

sudo: 3 incorrect password attempts
failed during:/usr/bin/sudo /bin/chmod u+rmx /usr/local/bin /usr/local/share

I tried the path again and typed it all in again and it states

curl: (6) could not resolve host: raw.githubusercontent.com

please help. I feel I am close but I think I got locked out.

What was the exact command you entered?

I type in the path

"/usr/bin/ruby -e “$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)”

and it was going good until it ask me for my password and I try 3 times to put in the pass word and after I press enter the 3rd time it said:

sudo: 3 incorrect password attempts
failed during:/usr/bin/sudo /bin/chmod u+rmx /usr/local/bin /usr/local/share

so I tried again and put the path

"/usr/bin/ruby -e “$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)”

again and now it keeps saying

curl: (6) could not resolve host: raw.githubusercontent. and I have no clue what do to next to resolve the issue to go forward.

Hello Onjali,

Homebrew by default installs to /usr/local as per the script. This is a more preferred directory just in case you delete the ruby directory.

This is the command from the homebrew site and docs:
mkdir homebrew && curl -L https://github.com/Homebrew/brew/tarball/master | tar xz --strip 1 -C homebrew

To install homebrew to /usr/bin/ruby, download the tar from https://github.com/Homebrew/brew/tarball/master and untar it into the /usr/bin/ruby directory.

I hope that this makes sense.
