Hello TOP,

I am currently trying to work through the section ‘Learn version control with Git part 1’

I am at the part which states I should create a .gitignore file in the root folder of my project(I assume this is the My first rails app?) in the editor.

My problem is, there is already a .gitignore file inside it with lots of information within it and the step after this, would like me to make a commit, but I have not changed anything as it already is in the folder.

Am I missing something?

Thank you.

If you already have a .gitignore file present in your directory, you should not need to create another one. The next time you commit and push (if you haven’t done so yet), you should be able to see that the files and/or directories listed in your .gitignore do not get pushed to github
